COYOQA Baseline Study Dissemination Webinar

Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) in collaboration with the Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (CCRDA) from Ethiopia, the University of Makerere from Uganda and, OSSREA Kenya Chapter will host a virtual event which will describe country-level preparedness and response to COVID-19.

These are the baseline study findings of the project, “COVID-19 and the Youth Question in Africa: Impact, Response, and Protection Measures” (COYOQA) which is being conducted in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. They will explore evidence-based policy-making related to non-pharmacological approaches to combating COVID-19. A key component to the work of the Pentagon Consortium and highlighted through the specific activities carried out under the COYOQA/CORE programme, is building demand for evidence on meaningful youth engagement in social accountability for social justice and good governance. Efforts by the COYOQA/CORE team to meet this demand during a public health crisis will be explored at this webinar.

Panelists including researchers and youth representatives will present:

  • An overview of the project.
  • Findings of the study in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda in relation to meaningful youth engagement in social accountability by their governments during the preparedness and response to COVID-19.
  • The gaps in the interactions between youth and youth-led organizations and decision makers/service providers/policy makers in mitigating COVID-19 and how these gaps inform policies for meaningful youth engagement and social accountability.
  • Youth representative’s impressions on what has changed in their life during COVID19? how do they see the response of government and non-governmental actors, what worked for them and what didn’t?
