Beyond the pandemic: Meeting the challenges of multiple crises in a post-Covid world

Poppy Bardwell
Project Manager | IDS

In late June and early July 2023, a series of online events were hosted by IDS which explored and showcased learning and impact from the Covid-19 Responses for Equity (CORE) programme.

The events brought together researchers and funders to consider the implications of CORE’s main areas of learning for managing multiple crises and building the resilience of the most vulnerable. They facilitated conversations around future research collaborations for building resilience and equity, shaped around three key areas of learning:

  • Informality and marginalised groups in crisis response;
  • Shockproof and inclusive fiscal policies;
  • Equitable support for livelihoods and food.

Each event was accompanied by a Key Issues Guide:

Wooden stalls with high roofs line the passage on both sides, from which jeans and trousers hang over wooden posts and from nails in the posts. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the passage, men - some wearing facemasks - examine the products and interact with the traders, who stand on their stalls raised above the customers.

A Learning Guide was also produced, summarising the learning from this series of events:

Webinars

How do we ensure that informal and marginalised groups are recognised in disaster response? What are the shock proof and inclusive fiscal policies needed when we face multiple crisis? How do we apply key lessons and priority actions when responding to food and livelihood security challenges?
