The COVID-19 Pandemic and the Informal Sector in Africa: Assessing the Impact and Policies for Response and Recovery

The international symposium on ‘The COVID-19 Pandemic and the Informal Sector in Africa: Assessing the Impact and Policies for Response and Recovery’ (Colloque international: La pandémie de COVID-19 et le secteur informel en Afrique – évaluation des répercussions et des politiques de riposte et de reprise – in French) is taking place on 12 October.

The objective of this symposium is to assess the impact of the pandemic on the informal sector in Francophone Africa and the strategies adopted by governments in the region to mitigate this impact and to promote equitable economic recovery in the sector. More specifically, the aim is to verify the extent to which response policies have been effective in supporting the livelihoods of the most vulnerable groups. This will include presentations of Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar’s research as well as that of the CORE project led by Cellule d’Analyse des Politiques Economiques du CIRES.

The event is organised by Laboratoire d’Analyse des Politiques de Développement de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (LAPD), Cellule d’Analyse des Politiques Economiques du CIRES (Université de Cocody-Abidjan) and Observatoire de la Francophonie économique de l’Université de Montréal (OFE).
